Word 2003 error trying to edit equation or graph

D

David Bevan

I've just got a new computer with WinXP & Office 2003.

If I insert an equation or graph object in a Word
document, then when I try to edit it (double-click or
right-click and select Edit or Open) I get the following
(weird) error message:

"Word cannot open the document: user does not have access
privileges".

There doesn't seem to be any mention of this in the
knowledge base. I've reinstalled MS Office to no avail.

Since I use the equation editor quite a bit, this is a
disaster!

Hi David,

If you also use Norton AV then go to Norton Options and in the
Miscellaneous section disable the "Office Plug-in" option.

It's a little too aggressive and it's recommended it be turned off if
you wish to do anything other than create a new document and print it.
Note I didn't include actually saving and re-opening the document, in
many instances the Norton option perceives that to be a threat too.
lol
