Word 2003/excell 2003

When starting either Word or Excel I go to File/Open and observe the usual
"Look In" and see "My Documents". Folders and files are displayed below and
I can access any file. If I try to change the "Look In" to any another
location i.e.. C: the program freezes.
Any idea?
