Word 2003 fails to start

J

John Lenz

I just got this message on word launch (either Word or outlook 2003 w/word
as editor)

Word failed to start correctly last time. Starting word in safe mode...

I did a detect and repair -> no fix

I un-installed adobe writer software -> no fix

I un-installed office 2003 pro, rebooted and re-installed office -> still
gives word fail to start correctly last time

How can I get this back up & working. Other office apps work fine.

You can try the steps shown here:

http://word.mvps.org/FAQS/AppErrors/ProbsOpeningWord.htm

As a general rule, because Word tries to preserve any/all custom settings,
removing/reinstalling doesn't help. The steps shown in the noted article
address the most likely causes of problems encountered in starting Word --
corrupted normal.dot, corrupted registry entries, and misbehaving add-ins.
