Word 2003 fatal error

Suddenly my Word program has started to encounter a fatal error. After a few
seconds the "Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to close."
message appears and I have to close the program. I have uninstalled and
reinstalled the program to no avail. Uninstalled and reinstalled Office to
no avail.

Any help greatly appreciated.

I am having the same issue. This began for us this past Tuesday, and has
started making it's way around our office. Users open WORD and get a Fatal
Error, "Program abnormally aborted", and then Word shuts down. I have
checked to see if this was some bug in an update recently, but have found no
recent updates that were installed on systems.

FWIW, this is happening on XP Pro machines with SP2 and Office 2003 w/ SP2.
It is also happening on XP Pro - SP2 machines with Office 2007 SBE.

The error is also affecting users when trying to forward some documents with
attachments in MS Outlook (Word as their email editor). Any advice on this
would be greatly appreciated... We can't be the only two experiencing this
sudden issue.
