Word 2003 files are not visible

All of a sudden Word documents will not open unless I reset my monitor to its
Analog setting from its Digital setting.
Other programs (PowerPoint, Excel) operate fine. Only Word has suddenly
changed. The file name appear in the border at the bottom of the screen, but
the file is not visible.

My operating system is Windows XP.
My software is Office Student and Teacher Edition 2003.

My monitor is a HANNS G 19 JC199D.

I have deleted the normal.dot file and reloaded the software, and installed
the Service Pack 3 - and the problem still persists.

When using the 'digital' mode, the screen resolution is higher and the Word
document is opening off screen. In digital mode, open 2 documents (even
though you cannot see them), then right-click in the Taskbar and choose one
of the stacked or side-by-side options. Both documents should reappear,
close one of them and then adjust the position of the open document and then
maximise it.

When I right-click in the Taskbar (at the bottom of the screen, where I can
see the icons for both files), I do not have either the "stacked" or the
"side-by-side" option available.

Right-clicking on the Taskbar triggers a pop-up menu of
Toolbars

Cascade Windows
Tile Windows Vertical
Tile Windows Hroizontal
Show the Desktop

Task Manager

Lock the Toolbar
Properties

Right-clicking on the file icons, triggers a pop-up menu of

Restore
Move
Size
Minimize
Maximize

Close

Selecting "Cascade ____ or Tile ______ has no effect.
Neither does "Maximize" or "Minimize."

FYI,
When I select the Start button, select Run and type "winword.exe /a" - I do
see the file in the digital mode.

You must have more than one window open and then either Tile or Cascade
should do the trick.

A different OS displays slightly different text when you right in the
Taskbar. I don't have XP to see the exact message. Win7 displays 'Show
Windows Stacked' and 'Show Windows side-by-side'. Surely what you need to do
is stating the obvious?

When I open more than one window, the commands, Cascade Windows, Tile Windows
Vertical and Tile Windows Horizontal, function properly. However, the Word
files icons remain in the taskbar and the Word files are still not visible
among the screens that "tile" and "cascade."

I searched through a couple of the other message boards, and found the
subject, "Why does Word open but not respond to typing?"

I ran across this posting from Graham Mayor, after the renaming of the
normal.dot to nomral.old did not solve the problem.

You will probably have to edit the registry with the registry editor to make
the change permanent. If you are uncomfortable with editing the registry,
copy and paste the following two lines into Notepad

REGEDIT4
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word\Data]

Save to the desktop as Data.reg. Then with Word (and Outlook)
closed Right click the file and choose Merge. The Data key for Word
2003 will be removed from the registry. Restart Word to create a
new one.

I tried this, and Word now functions properly (for now at least.)

Thanks for your suggestions.
