Word 2003: Getting information about a blob character

P

Peter Rooney

Sometimes a character can't display, so it appears as a black box.
Is there any way to learn the underlying ASCII or Unicode?
Related question: is there any way to cut it and paste it into the Find box
in order to do a Ctrl-H Replace?

If it's Unicode, then selecting it and pressing Alt+X will give you the
Unicode character number. You can use Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V to copy and paste it
into the Find and Replace dialog.

Just to clarify: Suzanne advises using the keyboard to cut/copy/paste
because you cannot use the mouse to execute those functions in the F&R
dialog box.
