WORD 2003 hangs on startup

Word 03 hangs when starting it up. Exel and pp work. Outlook works but also
hangs when WORD has been hunged. It hangs when the logo and such pops up in
the middle of my desktop. i have service pack 1 added. it has worked
before. i did repair it...i also delete and reloaded it. i have WIN xp sp
2. It does start in safe mode but hangs when opening a document. the only
thing i can think is my virus scanner?
