Word 2003 hangs when opening a folder in the "save as" window

Ever since I installed the latest updates from Microsoft within the last week
(4/16/2006-ish), Word 2003 hangs and must be force-quit when I try to open a
folder within the "save-as" dialog window. According to the auto-update and
the auto-repair programs, my version of Office 2003 is up-to-date and
completely repaired. However, I cannot move from the basic "My Documents"
folder to save any new file that I create, nor can I save a previously opened
file as another name without Word 2003 hanging and requiring a force-quit.
Any thoughts as how to help?
