word (2003) has encountered a problem and needs to close

I can open word or excel, but as soon as I select "page
setup" "print preview" etc I get a message "MS Word has
encountered a problem and needs to close..."

Anyone have any idea what may be wrong?

This almost certainly indicates a problem with your printer driver. Try
switching to a different printer as the Windows default. If this solves the
problem, delete and reinstall your printer, preferably using an updated
driver from the manufacturer's Web site.

I don't know who "they" are who are ignoring you, but I posted an answer to
this question three days ago, eight hours after the question appeared. Of
course, if you can't see that answer, you probably won't see this one,
either.

Have you deleted the printer and reinstalled it? The problems you're
experiencing suggest a problem with the printer driver.
