Hyperlinks in Word simply don't work properly because Word continually
changes them. I wish there was a little checkbox that I could simply
check that says Do not update hyperlinks. I know there is a checkbox
under Tool\Options\General\Web Options\Files that says "Update Links
on Save". But when I uncheck this option, create a hyperlink pointing
to file within the same directory, the path is something like
"file:///C:\Folder1\TestFile.mht" If you Edit Hyperlink, it doesn't
display the actual path (above) but when you hover over the link or
when you open the document and view the link in notepad, you can see
the link contains a path other than the one you specify. In fact, I
don't want a path since the linked document is in the same folder. The
link should simply be the name of the linked document.
The reason why the path it has chosen will not work is because I am
copying this file to a website. And yes, I can edit the hyperlink when
the document (.mht) is on the website and point to the linked file, it
still inserts the full address (eg. http://websitename/TestFile.mht)
which will obviously not work properly when someone accesses the site
using SSL (since the path should then be
https://websitename/TestFile.mht).
I hope that makes sense, and I am hoping someone has a miracle fix,
but I somehow think it's going to be an annoying issue for a long time
to come. An even nicer possibility would be for Microsoft to start
including options to "stop making assumptions for the user" and things
might start to work a little better.
Thanks in advance !
