Word 2003 in Safe Mode

Word 2003 in registering errors and starting in safe mode. My user opened
an attachment from outlook that was a Word file and Word started to corrupt.
I believe the file tried to adjust the normal.dot.

How do I correct the normal.dot file.

Rename normal.dot as normal.old or normal.bad. However, it seems an unlikely
scenario, but give it a go and see if it resolves the problem.
