Word 2003 - incompatible with old versions?

Hi,

I recently installed Office 2003 Professional. I am
having serious compatibility problems with my older Word
and Powerpoint files. I am unable to open any file not
created with Word 2003 or Powerpoint 2003. I am prompted
to try and repair the file.

Is there a patch out there for this issue or another
workaround?

I have had to open up Word2003, then click the "open new document'
button, highlight the document to open, and click on the little arrow
to the right of the "OPEN" button and select OPEN & REPAIR. It always
opens the document and shows where some errors/corrupt code were/was.
Then resave the document with a new name. It has worked every time for
me.
