Word 2003 maintain lines in document when data field is blank

I have recently upgraded from Word 2000 to 2003. I used to merge data from
Excel to pages of Certification Cards for healthcare. I did not always have
data in the fields, but needed to maintain the line (as blank) in the
finished product. In Word 2000 I used the catalog Mailmerge method and
select from options offered, the Maintain Blank Lines if the field data was
empty. I still need to do that, but don't see this offered as an option. I
presume I use the Directory merge. How do I do this?

If you have a field on a line with a paragraph mark then that line will be
reproduced with or without the content of the field. As you thought
Directory and catalog are the same. You may find
http://www.gmayor.com/mail_merge_labels_with_word_xp.htm useful as a
background to merging with Word 2003.

You can find this option by re-enabling the old Mail merge Helper -
Tools|Customize|Commands, select category All Commands in the list on the
left, locate MailMergeHelper in the list of commands on the right and drag
it to a menu or toolbar.
