connected to the ms sql 2000 northwind db using word 2003
select insert database select connect returns data, but i
told query to remove all fields except the id but still
other fields get inserted, iv tried different db
publication etc but each time all the fields come across
the selection of the data is fine, when i use the sql
2000 enterprise manager and create a view with only 3
fields then it works but i don't what my staff doing that.

It looks like an error in Word to me: I see the same problem if I connect
using OLEDB, try to select a single column, and do not insert the data as a
field. If I insert the data as a field, the query inserted in the DATABASE
field is correct and its results are correct. Another possible workaround
(other than creating a view, which you have already tried) is to use ODBC to
connect instead of OLEDB. In Word 2002/2003, you will probably need to go
via MS Query - when you get the "Select Data Source" dialog box, click on
the Tools menu and you should find MS Query at the bottom.
