Word 2003 mysteriously locked. Cannot edit or input

When I opened up an existing file this morning I could not edit or input.
Accessing Properties, Attributes doe not work as Read Only box not deployed.

Presuming it is just this one document causing problems, try the Open &
Repair option (click the little arrow attached to the OPEN button in the
File | Open dialog). Does that find the problem?
