Word 2003 - new autotext entries not going to Normal.dot

When I create new autotext entries they disappear when I close and reopen
Word 2003. I looked at the Normal.dot file and it has not been updated since
June 2007, so that indicates to me that my new autotext entries are not being
saved there in the first place. What can I do so that new autotext entries
are saved to Normal.dot and are therefore retained even after I close and
reopen Word?

There can be a number of reasons why normal.dot is not being updated, but
add-ins would be favourite - see
