word 2003 odd behavior

Hi,
MS office 2003 (used to use 2000) in word if i want to insert a text box,
draw a line, whatever, word jumps to a new page with a big box "Create your
drawing Here" What is that? Just makes for extra steps, I hate it. Can I
turn this off? When i select text box, all I want is a cursor, same with
line tool, etc. I know I can just click anywhere to make the box disappear,
but if i am near the end of a page the big stupid box creates a new page to
accomodate itself. Now I have to scroll up, etc
Thanks,
Frank L

In Word, click on Tools | Options | General | uncheck the
"Automatically create drawing canvas" box | OK.
