word 2003 on vista crashing and not saving properly

I have a Viao which has had a crashing problem but was resolved. started
crashing on word 2 days ago and today crashed and not saved even though been
using save button - auto recovery half an hour earlier which should be every
ten minutes.
Any suggestions - typing out important work and losing chuncks of it.

I'd suspect the printer driver - incompatible, partially corrupt or Word
keeps losing contact with it. Word must see a fully compatible, locally
installed printer driver to work correctly.
