Word 2003 open any document shows no data

When I open Word 2003 documents, from an email attachment or directly from
Word, it appears to open, but shows no data. No errors except at the bottom
it says the name of the doc and characters number of volume message. Many

That's more often than not an Anti Virus plug-in problem. Both NAV and
Kapersky have been reported as causing those symptoms.
