Hi Katy,
Inserted pictures only support 8 Of the 20 shadow style presets (styles 1, 2, 5, 6, 13,14, 17 and 18) and none of the 3d settings.
Most of the shadow settings greyed out tend to look a bit odd with photos (they're not mirrored effects as those that can be used in
Word 2007, for example.
For the 8 presets that are available you can use the 'shadow settings' choice in the Shadow dialog to move the shadows to get
variants of the effects, or to use the 3d settings and the other 12 shadow styles, first insert a rectangular autoshape from the
drawing toolbar, then use 'Fill effects'=>Picture and fill the shape with your picture.

I'm trying to put shadow on a jpeg in a Word 2003 document. Only some of the
shadow options are available, several are greyed out. How do I make ALL
options available? Thanks for any help! <<
