Word 2003 pops up extra window when opening a doc

When I open a ...doc with MS Word 2003 and when there is another minimized
page on the Taskbar it will pop up just behind the page I have opened,
covering other windows on the Desktop.

How does one put a stop to this?

Sorry but I don't follow your problem. If the other page on the Taskbar is
minimised, what is popping up behind what? How are you opening the second
document?

Hi, Terry,

Thanks for the follow up.

As an example I-net.doc is minimized on the Taskbar. When I open up
Daily.doc, I-net.doc opens up behind it to the upper left showing its Title
bar and about an equal amount of the left side of that window. In this case
I opened Daily.doc by clicking on its name in the Recently Opened menu.
However, this seems to happen however I open a 2nd Word document.

Hope you (or somebody) has thoughts about this.

Thanks again for responding.

That's bizarre and not correct, of course.

Try opening Word in Safe Mode and testing again. From Start, Run (Winkey+R),
type in

winword /a

and press enter. Word opens in Safe Mode. Open a document and then minimise
to the Taskbar. Now open another document. Does it still do the same?

If this is happening whilst Word is opened in Safe Mode, it pretty much
points to the the AntiVirus causing this. Are you using Norton AV or
Kaspersky - both of which are known to cause similar problems?

Hi, Terry,

I appreciate your prompt reply.

I'm using "Avast!" v.4.8 Home Ed.

I'm not familiar with Avast. It may be worth checking at their support site
to see if there is an update or if they have had reports of this.
