word 2003 "preparing to install"

I have WIN XP Pro service pack2 and Word 2003. When I click on the icon to
start work, I get a brief flash on the screen "preparing to install" an it
takes Word a very long time (up to two minutes) to open. I do not understand
the " preparing to install" note each time I start word.

I have gone to control panel and "repaired" Word several times but no change
in the load time or the "preparing to install" message. Is this normal? or
is there some other way to make Word load faster and remove the " preparing
to install"
