When printing from Word 2003 it takes roughly 2 minutes for the list of
printers to display. We have 400+ printers installed (due to a large
terminal server environment)
The problem is reproducable on a non-terminal server environment using
fully patched Windows 2000 and Windows 2003.
I have tried Word 2003, Word 2003 SP1 and Word 2003 SP2
spoolsv.exe and winword.exe reach high cpu usage ONLY when waiting for
the print dialogue box to open. Monitoring with regmon, Winword is
trawling through the registry in some odd areas.
If I print using the default printer by clicking printing from the
toolbar the document prints.
No other applications such as Excel, powerpoint, notepad etc have
problems, each displaying the dialogue box immediatly (even with 400+
printers installed)
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Duncan.
