My word 2003 just quits, without any forewarning or activities tied to it.
The only slight instigating act is once, out of the many occurences, I pushed
ctrl+D (insted of S to save) and it quit. An screen pops-up and asks if I
want to report the info to microsoft. Here is the Error Signature
AppName: winword.exe AppVer: 11.0.6359.0 AppStamp:40c8b025
ModName: hpzpm309.dll ModVer: 2.236.1.0 ModStamp: 3ef959bd
fDebug: 0 Offset:000354b3

I have spoken with HP and they could not help. Also, as indicated by the
other thread, I do not have a Handwriting recognition tool, that I can find.

Thanks,

If you select a different default printer in Start | Control Panel |
Printers, does the Word problem persist? If that fixes the problem, then
delete and reinstall your HP printer in Start | Control Panel | Printers.

It seems to be working so far. Thank you. Just a little info on my set up.
This way if others have similar problems. At home I have a wireless notebook
and a PC and wireless internet. There is a printer connected and I have not
been able to get word to print through it (I will try reinstalling the
driver). But my school is also wireless.

garfield-n-odie, I'm not sure how to get in touch with you to be sure you'll
read this, but I wanted to tell you that you are my new computer hero! I
worship you and your Microsoft knowledge. I had the same problem as "broke
student" and tried everything from renaming the normal.dot file to deleting
macros to repairing the whole program. Nothing worked. When I read your
solution, I recalled that I'd switched default printers after installing a
new one. I can't believe the solution was so simple. I spent HOURS trying
to fix it yesterday. My most sincere gratitude for taking the time to
respond to questions on this board! Especially since you don't get much help
otherwise unless you pay $35 an hour for it. If you happen to read this--do
you know WHY changing the default printer causes this problem? I'd like to
understand it better. Thanks so much.

Hi, Dawn. Thank you for the kind words. If you got the same
error message (or at least the same "modname" in the error
message) as "broke student", then it wasn't the switching to a
different default printer that was a problem, but more a problem
with the driver for the printer that you chose to switch to.
Word relies more heavily on information from the printer driver
to perform page layout and pagination functions than other Office
applications. A printer driver can develop minor glitches for
unknown reasons; if it does, it may still work well enough in
most other applications, but not in Word, and reinstalling the
printer in Start->ControlPanel->Printers restores the printer
driver to its original state.
