Word 2003 right arrow key not working

E

Emma Middlebrook

Hi,

I upgraded my XP system from Office 2002 to Office 2003 Pro today and now I
have this problem (only in Word 2003) when in the application the left, up
and down arrow keys quite happily navigate each character typed but when I
press the right arrow key - nothing happens. If I press ctrl right arrow (it
does step over a word) but nothing hapens when you just press it on its own.

I deinstalled and reinstalled (just in case it was something to do with the
upgrade) and I also installed the service pack. I am sure this doesn't happen
on my work PC, it's annoying enough that I am sure I would have noticed! I
can't understand what's happened or what the conflict might be and how to
solve it.

Thanks

Emma

Hi Emma,

I can't explain what happened -- I've done lots of upgrades of all
sorts, and nothing like that has happened to me -- but you can
(probably) fix it this way:

Go to Tools > Customize and click the Keyboard button. Select "All
Commands" on the left, and click "CharRight" on the right. Put the
cursor in the "Press new shortcut key" box. Press the right arrow key
(the word "Right" should appear in the box) and click the Assign
button. Close the dialogs and test your arrow key. When you shut down
Word, if you're prompted to save changes to Normal.dot, say yes.
