Word 2003: Save As Freezing

When I try to save a Word document using Save As, Word freezes if I save the
document any place other than in My Documents. For example, if I use the
pull down menu in Save As to go to the C drive, Word freezes. Essentially,
the pull down menu in Save As freezes Word 2003 every time. Suggestions?
