Word 2003 screen fonts different?

I've upgraded from Office XP to 2003, and now the on-
screen text in Word looks lousy -- like I'm looking at a
graphic instead of text, and definitely harder to read. I
think I read somewhere that there's an "improvement" in
2003 that's supposed to help on-screen legibility, but at
least on my laptop it's making things worse. Is there a
way to go back to the old text appearance without going
back to Office XP?

Might want to try ClearType:

Are you talking about the type when you're in Word's reading mode, or just
normal mode?
Are you running WinXP/2003 and have ClearType turned on in the OS?
