Word 2003 shuts down about 10 seconds after startup

The copy of word 2003 that came installed on my HP ze4800 shows a window that
says "Word has encountered a proplem and must shut down ......." This
happens about 10 seconds after the blank word document page comes up. It
happens every time. What is the fix?

The problem usually is a corrupted normal.dot or corrupted registry entries.
