Word 2003 - slow startup

Why does Word 2003 search my A: drive when it starts? How can I prevent this
time waster?

Does anyone know where I can find the steps that Word 2003 uses as it starts
up?

Do you have norton auntie virus installed?
If so, disable the nav Office plug-in, but make sure nav's autoprotect is
enabled.
Could be the av software checking the floppy drive?
