Word 2003 spell check will not allow selection of suggestions....

When I start word 2003 spell check, it shows the misspelled word, and shows a
list of suggestions, but within one second, the Ignore once, ignore all, and
add to dictionary butons grey themselves out, and the undo last button
appears. I am unable to select any of the sugegstions. Any ideas?
