Word 2003 spell checker doesn't check

Have gone in to tools, options, and checked boxes, but then have purposely
mispelled words and requested a check and a box comes up saying 'spell check
is complete'. What am I doing wrong?

With the cursor in one of the misspelled words, go to Tools >
Languages > Set Language. If the box for "Do not check spelling or
grammar" is checked, that's the culprit. Exit the dialog, select all,
re-enter the dialog and clear the checkbox. Spell-check again (you may
need to go to Tools > Options > Spelling & Grammar and click the
Recheck Document button).

Go to Tools, Language, Set Language, clear the two check boxes at the bottom
and then select your language and click on DEFAULT. Answer Yes to the
question. CLose Word and you should be prompted to save changes to the
Global Template (normal.dot): say Yes to that too.
