Word 2003 - Spell/grammar check can not be trusted.

Magnus - Brussels

Hi,

This is more of a warning, I have suspected that there
are problems with the above function in Word 2003 but I
thought it was limited to French, etc.

It will not even see that "ACKNOWEDGEMET" is not
correct... And all parameters have been corrcetly set and
the latest patch is applied.

If you are using the application in your non-native
tounge, be careful.

Make sure that the language setting applied to the text (Tools | Language |
Set Language) is the one you are using the spelling checker for.

Hi Magnus,

And what is the setting of "Do not check spelling or
grammar" in Tools/Language/Set language? If it's activated,
that's where your problem is. Select the text, then
deactivate this.

Hi,

No, it is not activated.
The settings under Options|Spelling & Grammar are
correctly set as well (or does at least appear correct).

Additional comment.

I have posted questions about this earlier, linked to
French grammar control which works when it feels like it
(mostly never). It seems to me that there is a problem
with this function in Office 2003.
Have been using Office 2000 pretty much since it came out
and have not had these issues.

Hi Magnus,

And I've been testing Word 2003 for a year, and never seen
any problems. Which Build number are you using? (Help/About)

Is your spell check set to overlook words in all caps? That may be the
simplest solution. See if the "Ignore words in UPPERCASE" checkbox is
clicked and if so uncheck it.
