Word 2003 Spontaneously Closes

Word 2003 spontaneously closes without logging an error message when a file
is opened which contains an EPS graphic. Our letterhead contains a linked
EPS graphic and on this one computer whenever we attempt to open a file
containing the letterhead or access the template containing letterhead, Word
spontaneously closes.

I have seen Word 2003 lock up when attempting to load this EPS graphic, but
never spontaneously close.

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this behavior and how to fix
it?
