Word 2003 Startup Error

I'm using Vista and Word 2003. When I select a word document and open it, I
get an error message stating that word has stopped working correclty. I then
select MS Word from my applications and I get a message prompting me to run
Word in Safe Mode. I do this and I'm able to use Word. Also, Outlook is
unable to use Word as my editor - very annoying. I've looked at a few
message sites and their seems to be some noise about Adobe 8.1, Word and
Outlook having problems in Vista but nothing definitive. I've tried the
repair feature of word but that hasn't helped. Any ideas?
