Word 2003 Text Reversal

R

Roy Gracious

Hi:
Recenlty (since the last 2-3 weeks) users of our application have
started noticing text being reversed in RTF documents every other time the
RTF template is launched.
e.g. pre-filled date bookmark fields will be displayed correctly in the
MM/DD/YYYY format the first time the RTF document is launched and the next
time the same RTF document is launched the date will be displayed in the
YYYY/DD/MM format. This happens to phone numbers, some large text fields.
No code changes have been made to our template.

Interestingly this doesn't happen when I use the normal.dot file in place of
our template.

Could this issue be related to the following
security patch Security Update for Word 2003 (KB917334)?

Does anyone else know why this is happening?
FYI, we have been using the application for years and in only the last
couple of weeks has this problem been noticed.

Thanks,
Roy.

You'd do better to ask in a non-Macintosh newsgroup...

Perhaps:

microsoft.public.word.application.errors

Roy:

That sounds like a System Locale problem. Or possibly a Right-to-left Text
Direction transposition.

Neither mechanism operates on the Mac platform, so we can't be much help to
you :)

Cheers

Roy:

I don't think it was YOUR error. I think you were using the truly silly web
interface for the newsgroups built by Microsoft.

That contains the germ of a good idea: it scans your question and tries to
get it into the correct group. But unfortunately, it simply doesn't work.
A substantial proportion of the posts we see here are being misdirected.

Don't feel bad... But in future, use the Google interface (as recommended
by the Microsoft Macintosh Business Unit) :)

Cheers

John,

FYA, I don't know how Roy ended up responding to this, but his question
appears to have ended up in the equally inappropriate
microsoft.public.word.word6-7macros group. It's probably only a couple of
warps to Roswell :)

Hi Peter:

If he responded, wherever it went this time, we never saw it :)

Some people at Redmond became quite emotional when I referred to their pride
and joy as "The Electronic Headless Chicken".

But regardless of how often they try to tell us that it is a great idea,
right at the moment, it DOESN'T WORK!!! :)

Cheers
