Word 2003 Text shows squares instead of text...

Half of my doc has text and the other half has squares...

Is there a fix for this?

Half your document is obviously corrupt. You could try opening using the
Open and Repair option, but I don't hold out much hope. Are you using some
form or removable media to save onto?

I did use the Open and Repair option, it did not work. I tried renaming it to
..rtf and then converting it back to .doc..............no workie.

the pc froze and all of the docs that we had open are okay except the one
that we were changing....
