Robert

When I try to use the thesaurus Word 2003 takes a few minutes to respond or
does not respond at all and crashes. Does anyone know what might be the
problem??? Thanks in advance.

Have you got a good internet connection? Word 2003 normally tries to connect
to the on line services. You can disable this is you don't have a good
connection.

How do I disable the internet connection?

I've not got W2003 but IIRC, if you look at the bottom of the Thesaurus
TaskPane, there is an option button where you can change the order Word
checks the thesaurus which includes disabling on line content.

Robert,

You are right, the problem is the thesaurus is going on line. I have not
found an option to disable it. Do you know where it is.

Thanks,

Kelley

Tools, Options, General, click on the Services Options button at the bottom
of the page and select the Online Contents option. Clear the checkbox
labelled 'Show the content and links from Microsoft Office Online'.

Have you tried running Detect and Repair option under the Help menu?

Other than delete the Proofing .dll files and then run Detect and Repair
again, I have no idea what else you can do.
