Word 2003 will not Maximize

When Word 2003 opens it leaves about a 1" gap at the top
of my display showing my desktop. I am not able to move
the window up. If I click on the Maximize button, the
window is reduced down and I am able to move it anywhere
on the screen. If I click on the Maximize button again
the display is made full size except for the 1" gap at
the top. Any suggestions would be great.
