Word 2003 will not open the Symbol Character Map

Insert SYMBOL will NOT launch the symbol insert tool.
It's busted! Anyone know how to make it work again?

Thank you for your help, but it didn't work. I tried all methods. You can
click on INSERT Symbols, and the PC tries to call to the character Map, but
it never launches.
All three methods to restore this feature don't work.
I have other templates and it will NOT launch on them either. It is
universally
not working. Character Map works, and I can copy and paste from there.
Any clues??

This may indicate a problem with your printer driver. Try deleting and
reinstalling the printer (with an updated driver if one is available).

Or if you have recently added some font, you could try to remove it again.
I've seen problems opening "Insert > Symbol" when some fonts were corrupt.
(Probably Word tries to analyze the installed fonts and can hang if a font is broken)
