word 2003 will not start

I have had word 2003 for a year now. It has worked great. But a week ago,
without warning word ceased to open. The startup box displaying the logo
appeared but froze onto screen. After I restarted the computer I could open
it in safe-mode but still the problem happens each time I try to open it
normally.
I tried uninstalling just word and reinstalling it, but to no effect. Other
office programs work fine.
I figure maybe its something to do with the coding of the program thats been
effected. Any ideas on where to look for errors or what I should do to solve
this problem?
