WORD 2003 won't open.

Suddenly, I can't open WORD 2003 at all. I've tried uninstalling and
reinstalling the suite, but to no avail. No failure messages. Only the
opening window starts, then nothing. Help, please.

Sorry, that is of absolutely NO HELP WHATSOEVER. How about some guidance for
a regular person in normal English? Going into the registry is not something
I can do.

Most of the suggestions in that article do not require going into the
Registry. If you are unwilling to profit from the combined experience of the
users here, then I'm afraid no one can help you.
