We have a few XP machines that have had problems with word. One of the
trouble-shooting techniques is to delete the normal.dot file. So now we have
about 3 users so far that going back into word does not recreate a normal.dot
template. The file locations points to f:\my documents, which has also been
changed to c:\docsandsettings\%user%\application data\microsoft\template and
when we make a toolbar change and exit word, we are not prompted. They have
the check box on to prompt to save normal template, but one never recreates.
We've already cleaned the machine of all normal.dot and her f:\my documents.
The registry under CU\software\microsoft\office\11\...was all removed, etc.
etc., the normal troubleshooting. This just started occurring and we've had
Office 2003 since March 2006 and have not had problems. Tried repairing
office and setting everything back to defaults and still has problems. We
cannot duplicate this.
So what makes Word recreate the normal.dot and where is the original kept
(or is that file compressed somewhere)?
