Word 2003 Xml Schema

R

Ray Farrar

This problem occurs when you attach an xsd schema to a
Word document. When the schema xsd file is updated, even
if you delete the schema from the Word schema library and
then add it again, the schema changes are not picked up by
Word. It appears that Word is caching the schema somewhere.

The only way I can find to overcome this is to change the
namespace URI in the schema before adding it to the schema
library again. By doing this it convinces Word that it
really is a diffrent schema.

Is this by design?

Hi Ray,

When you go to Tools/Templates and Add-ins\XML Schema are you
selecting the "Schema Library" command and Updating the Schema?

Also note this newsgroup is more for Word application errors. The
Office Developer newsgroups is where the Word XML gurus tend to hand
out. :)

Hi Beth,

Sorry I got the wrong the group. Should I re-post this in
the Office Developer group?

However, to answer your question, yes I make a schema
change, go to the schema library, delete the schema, add
the schema, add it to the document. The "Update Schema"
button remains disabled throughout. The changed schema is
not picked up, only the one that had been previously
attached to the document. The only way to get the new
schema recognised is the change the namespace uri in the
schema. This is a pain of course, because if you want to
keep your namespace, you then have to repeat the whole
process to edit the schema back to the original
namespace!!!

I have just double checked this to see if the Update
Schema button is enabled at some point - it isn't.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Ray

Hi Ray,

Yes, you may want to post this in one of the Office Developer
newsgroups.

My XML knowledge in Word at this point is what is 'supposed' to happen
rather then what 'actually' happens - sorry! Those in the developer
newsgroups should hopefully be able to help you out. :)
