Word 2003

The Old Bloke

Hi People,

A couple of times I have had this problem:

When I open Word. the view shows the side margins but not the top and bottom
margins (in Print Layout View). If I look at Page Setup, the top and bottom
margins are set correctly. I have not been able to see the top-bottom
margins in any view. Each time I could only fix this by using System
Restore.

The same problem has just happened on my wife's PC, and I replaced her
normal.dot with mine, but that didn't fix the problem. Again the only way
we could fix it was with System Restore.

Can any one shed some light on this re-occurring problem?

I suggest that in print layout view you hover the mouse over the place where
the bottom margin of one page 'should' meet the top margin of a second page
(you may simply simulate this in a blank document if you wish by putting
enough line raps or a page break). You should see your mouse turn into what
will look like two small blocks with arrows pointing up in one and down in
the other. Then, click. You may again hide the top and bottom margins in a
similar manner. This is all assuming that your Word 2003 is similar to my
Word 2002.

Yours,
Dan

Thanks Dan,

I had cleared the problem with a System Restore, so I can't try what you
suggest. I did try hovering the mouse over the margin that you suggested to
create the problem without luck.

But once again I went back to the Word help section and found a possible
solution. In Tools, Options, View I found that if I unselected "White space
between pages", then I lost my top and bottom margin in the Print layout
view. Selected it again and the top and bottom margins were back. No idea
what this all means .....

That web page described exactly what is happening. It is interesting that
that web page says' "
Word 2003 seems especially prone to losing the configuration settings
in tools > options.

We certainly had never changed these white space setting. Seem like a bit
of instability in Word 2003.

Thanks Martin

Nae bother OB. I'm using 2002, and at one time was frequently losing the
white space through careless mouse clicking just above or below a page.
Another click in the same place toggles it back.

Out of curiosity, I've just tried toggling to 'no white space' with the
mouse. Then went to Tools > Options > View, and the relevant box had
become unticked.
