Word 2003sp3 save *.docx by default

Hello,
Since sp3 for Office2003 came out, Word doesn´t save in the *.docx Format
instantly even if it has been set as default - it takes *.doc anyway.

second thing:
The Question about the File properties before initialally saving a new
document doesn´t appear with *docx (option for this is set correctly)

third thing:
When browsing for office files with "Open Office File" - the 2007 Format
Filters from Word and Powerpoint aren´t updated yet - so no *.docx / *.pptx
files will be found.

It would be great to take a look at that !

Office 2003 never had a docx option: that is strictly a Word 2007 format.
You can get a converter (free download from MS) that lets you open docx
documents, but not create one.

Oh, I forgot to mention that the FileFormatConverters ARE installed...

The point ist that Word 2003 is able with these converters to save in *.docx
format and did that already until sp3.

Since sp3 the Option to save as *.docx is possible yet, but word now ignores
that so you have to select it manually in the save-dialogue.

The second thing was the dialog-box to be asked for file properties before
saving a new document the first time. This didn´t work properly as well as
with sp2 and sp3.

Note that these things work fine with excel and powerpoint !

Last but not least is there a matter with the "open office file" dialogue ->
in that the filters for ppt* and doc* should be added (xls* is already
working...)

Once again: Please go to Word -> Options -> Saving -> "Default Format" and
"Ask me for file Properties" (I have the german version so I think this
should be the ~ translation).

These Options make problems in Word but not in Excel and Powerpoint...

Thanks again for taking a look at that.

There are a whole load of security changes in SP3 that some users are saying
has reduced some functionality. I no longer have 2003, so cannot confirm
that it is so, but I'd keep an eye on the forum because it it is true, we
will see a load more posts about it.

Microsoft should not be worry about that the converter makes older Office
Suites like v2007 -> It makes the new Formats only more popular, because of
the useful enhancements in these...

Users know well that the new look and feel from v2007 is not based on the
new formats - they only came in place with it.

My opinion: The new formats work without any bugs in Excel and Powerpoint.
So there should be made a fix (remember: "default" and "properties") for Word
to close up. Otherwise the Formats should be fully banned from older Office
Suites again (redegraded to read-only for example) if support will not be
given (better NOT than *buggy*).

Thanks again for the reply.
