Word 2004 and Desktop Printers...?

When I drag a Word document to my networked HP 8000 icon (which resides in
the Dock), Word launches, and the printer prints a blank page. I also have a
"Print" item as a contextual menu, and nothing happens when I right-click on
a Word document.

Does Word 2004 not support desktop printers?

That should work (it does here...). It sounds as though you have not set
that printer as your ³default² printer. Check in System Preferences>Print
and Fax...

It IS set to my default printer.

Even stranger...if you have a Word document open, and you drag a different
Word document to the printer, the already-open Word document prints. I had a
20-page report open, and I needed to print two 1-page letters. I dragged and
dropped them on the desktop printer, and next thing I know I had printed the
20-page report twice.

Is this a bug? Does it have to do with Word being a Carbon app or not
supporting Services?

Networked...

Are you dragging a document to a networked desktop printer or a local one?

Hmm. Well, it doesn¹t work for any user in my Office, and reports from other
forums indicate the same. Maybe you are a lucky one...

The only thing I can think of is that on this network, the printer drivers
are local. I have a WinTel box and an Apple OS X box on the same network,
so the drivers are local to each workstation. If your print server is
actually a remote machine, that would account for the difference.
