Word 2004 AutoCorrect issues

Word 2004 has this annoying habit of capitalizing the first letter of
every new sentence that I type. e.e. cummings would be horrified. I
pulled up the AutoCorrect dialog box and the "Capitalize first letter
of sentences" box remains unchecked. How can I stop Word from
correcting my typing and formatting?

Having that checkbox unchecked works fine for me, so I haven't a clue why it
isn't working for you, and I don't think there's anywhere else to control
this, as it usually works. So I'm gonna make a random guess. The setting
for that checkbox is stored in the preferences file--maybe the fact that
Word is not obeying the setting suggests corrupted prefs.

Test your prefs with the procedure here:
http://word.mvps.org/MacWordNew/DamagedPrefs.htm
(hit refresh a few times in Safari, or use a different browser)

Try just the Word prefs first, if you want.

Thanks, but the suggestions have not helped. Word continued to correct
my typing even though I trashed the possibly corrupt preferences.

I couldn't find anything in the Troubleshooting guide.

Any other suggestions?

Hi Emily,

So you go to Tools> AutoCorrect and uncheck the option to capitalize first
words of sentences. When you close and reopen the AutoCorrect dialog, does
the option remain unchecked (but still not work)? When you close the
current document and open a new one, does the option remain unchecked (but
still not work)?
