Word 2004 crashes on "SAVE" after installing Leopard

After upgrading my PowerMac G5 dual/2.0GHz to Leopard (10.5.x), Word
crashes every time I "SAVE" a new document and sometimes randomly
while typing one. Is this an OS compatibility problem or do I have a
"bug?" I REALLY need to use this program as I am writing my BA Thesis
and am also an Instructor developing class documents and exams. Can
anyone help with this?

There's no inherent compatibility problem with Leopard--plenty of people
are running Leopard and Word 2004 fine. Probably something got corrupted
in the upgrade.

Definitely repair permissions and restart to make sure everything is
clear after a big upgrade like that.

Consistent and reproducible problems in Word usually respond to one of
the standard troubleshooting measures, which you will find listed here:
http://word.mvps.org/Mac/TroubleshootingIndex.html
Work through them one by one until something helps. If nothing does,
post back. The most common culprit is a corrupted Normal template or
damaged Preferences file.

I had incorrectly set permissions for lots of folder after I reinstall
to 10.5, I had almost everywhere set read only. Check your MUD folder
and also the folder where you are saving your document that you have
enough permissions to write (select that folder ad do apple I for
info, the permisions setting are at the bottom of info window)
