Word 2004 crashes when opening ver X documents

I recently installed Office 2004. The first time I went to open an old
(ver. X) document in Word, it crashes the program. Every time.
Autorecovery doesn't work either. It happens every possible way I try
to open the documents too.

I haven't had any problems with Excel, PowerPoint or Entourage.

OSX 10.3.4

The error log is a mile long, but the exception shows: EXC_BAD_ACCESS

Help?
