Word 2004 Font Formats

J

jim

Since loading Tiger 10.4 through an archive and install I no longer
have the font command on the format menu of Word 2004.

The "Formatting Palette" and Style commands still function. The font
window with its features still appears through "command D".

For this and other reasons I removed office 2004 and reloaded without
regaining the Font command.

Any fix?

Hi Jim,

When you removed Office 2004, did you use the Remove Office tool or did you
just trash the application? If the latter, then you left behind your Office
preferences which may be corrupt. I would recommend doing it again properly
as described here: <http://word.mvps.org/MacWordNew/RemoveReinstall.htm>
(If using Safari, hit Refresh once or twice; better yet, use another
browser.)

It's possible, however, that the fault is in your Normal template (which is
not touched when you remove Office). The Normal template in Word 2004 is
found in Documents>Microsoft User Data. With Word quit, rename Normal (to
something like OldNormal). Relaunch Word and see if the font menu is
restored. For more on this procedure, see here:
<http://word.mvps.org/MacWordNew/MacWordNormal.htm>
(If using Safari, hit Refresh once or twice; better yet, use another browser
for this site.)

If Beth's tips don't work, try these:

Make sure you didn't accidentally turn on "Word 5.1 Menus". Look under View
to see if there's a check next to that option. If that isn't the problem:

If you go to Tools | Customize Toolbars/Menus, select the Menu Bar, and
click Reset, it should set all your main menus and built-in toolbars back to
the default.

If you have customized your menus or toolbars, you may want to explore the
Tools | Customize, Commands dialog, and drag the commands you are missing
back to the toolbars/menus yourself, rather than wipe out your
customizations by clicking Reset.

Though depending on how you removed and reinstalled Office 2004, you may
need to clear that up even if those work.

Side note--remove and reinstall is totally inappropriate as a first
troubleshooting step, it is either overkill or doesn't work anyhow. Bookmark
this page for reference next time you have a problem.

(hit refresh a few times in Safari, or use a different browser)
